Akin to his elder, this young Tuiuika boy was adorned in a headdress of blue parrot feathers and necklace of alligator teeth and peccary tusks. As in common now in the younger generations of indigenous Rio Negro people, he was bilingual in his native language and Portuguese. He was inquisitive and wanted to know what I was doing as I painted and in turn told me of how he was in training to become a Kumuã by the old man to carry on the traditional healing practices.
