About The Artist

George Frederick Thomas grew up in Gloucestershire. He attended Dean Close School, Cheltenham, and completed an Art Foundation at SGS College Stroud. At the age of 20 he enrolled at the London Atelier of Representational Art (LARA) 2014 – 2017 to study traditional painting and drawing techniques.

George is also an accomplished martial artist and from the age of 14 he would train five evenings a week after school. He has competed at a semi-professional level in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) as well as competing at an amateur level in Kickboxing, Freestyle Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Despite his success as an amateur fighter his passion for art led him to move to London at the age of 20 to further pursue his studies and career as an artist.

He greatly enjoys painting from life and has travelled to various countries in Europe and South America to draw the people and paint new horizons, including climbing a flat top mountain on the Venezuelan-Brazilian border where he painted a watercolours using water collected from a mountain stream, painting in the snow in the Pyrenees Mountains and living with the Macuxi tribe in Northern Brazil and painting tribe members portraits.

In 2016 (whilst still a student) he won the Tuscany Plein-Air Scholarship.  He has also been featured with his artwork on Brazilian television.  He exhibits his work frequently in London and the south of England and has had his work exhibited in galleries in Chelsea, Belgravia and Mayfair.
