Parque Enrique Lage is a public park in the city of Rio de Janeiro, located in the Jardim Botânico neighbourhood at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain.  I came across this building, the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (Visual Arts School of Parque Lage), when stocking up on painting materials from their art shop.  It is the grandest art school I have ever visited! It was remodelled by Italian architect Mario Vodret, with interior paintings by Salvador Payols Sabaté.

This painting is all about layering; the water and architecture, the forest, and finally the mountain on top of which Christ the Redeemer stands.  To define these layers I painted each increasingly more grey than the foreground with tonal value of the mountain almost getting lost into the clouds.
